1. Tax Collection in Texas

Box and Tank is a registered business entity in the State of Texas. In compliance with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, we are required by law to collect sales and use tax on all taxable transactions delivered to a Texas address.

  • Standard Rate: The current Texas state sales tax rate is 6.25%.

  • Local Taxes: Depending on the delivery city and county (such as Fort Worth/Tarrant County), additional local taxes of up to 2.00% may apply, for a maximum combined rate of 8.25%.

2. Out-of-State Sales (Nexus)

For orders delivered outside of Texas, sales tax will be applied based on the “Economic Nexus” laws of the destination state.

  • If Box and Tank has a legal obligation to collect tax in your state, it will be automatically calculated at checkout.

  • For states where we do not currently have a tax nexus, you (the buyer) may be responsible for reporting and paying “Use Tax” directly to your state’s taxing authority.

3. How Tax is Calculated

Our website utilizes a dynamic tax calculation system via WooCommerce.

  • Location-Based: Tax is calculated based on the Shipping Address provided during checkout, not the billing address.

  • Line Item Transparency: Sales tax is never “hidden” within the product price. It is displayed as a clearly labeled, separate line item in your cart and at the final stage of checkout.

4. Tax-Exempt Purchases

If you are a tax-exempt organization (e.g., a registered non-profit or a business with a valid Texas Resale Certificate), please follow these steps before placing your order:

  1. Create an account on our website.

  2. Email your valid Exemption Certificate to info@boxandtank.com

  3. Once verified, our team will update your account to “Tax-Exempt” status so that tax is not applied to your future orders.
